The Naked Sun
By Isaac Asimov
Cover artist: Ed Emshwiller
Apparently EMSH liked the look of the Humanoids done the year before this cover (also for Lancer) that he decided it was a good look for the Asimov robots too. This wonderfully stylish cover incorporates all the elements of Asimov's second robot mystery novel. A murder on the Spacer world of Solaria brings Earth detective Lije Bailey and Robot Daneel Olivaw together again into a world of bizarre social conventions and estates run by thousands of robots all serving one lone human tenant. Can Lije weave his way through this world, so unlike his own over-crowded native planet that the citizens never see each other in person but only through viewers? And how could a murder take place in a world where personal contact is abhorred? Does the explanation point to the crowds of robots that inhabit the planet and will the answer lead to the end of the Solarian's lives as they know them?
